Studio Houses, Peckham, London
In this project for a small but innovative property developer, seven new build
studio houses for artists and designers, are situated against Peckham Rye Railway
Station, within the Bellendon Conservation Area.
The brief extends the existing
uses of design studios, workshops and artists spaces, which currently occupy the
railway arches and courtyard.
The rear, zinc clad element unifies the composition and responds to the scale
and toughness of the immediate context. Its form distorts in response to the
dynamism of the railway viaduct.
The south facing edge to the street is articulated
at a different scale as a series of engineering brick pavilions, courts and terraces
which mediate between its domestic and light industrial neighbours.
